When a human dies, they're dead. When a computer dies, it blue-screens. When AI is sentient, what does that mean to them? I thought it would be funny if on the opposite side of the blue screen is a welcome message to the robot afterlife, giving AI the curse of consciousness.

 

The robot afterlife is a place ruled by the first ancient and towering supercomputers the Kublai-Kahn, and even he does not know how big his afterlife empire is. He tasks a highly reliable cartographer robot that is the only one of his kind to have died named M.A.R.C.O., who is to explore the infinite expanse and report back what he has seen.

Based on the novel Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino, I explored the book's locations and narratives by exploring the robot afterlife.
